Regenerative Thermal Oxidation RTO

View of the RTO system (regenerative thermal oxidation) of BLUER Medio Ambiente for the treatment of industrial emissions in a process plant

Regenerative thermal oxidation (RTO) is one of the most efficient technologies for the purification of industrial gases.

Its operating principle is based on heat transfer through regeneration chambers with ceramic material, which allows high energy recovery and a significant reduction in fuel consumption.

This system is highly efficient in the elimination of VOCs and other gaseous pollutants. At BLUER MEDIOAMBIENTE, we implement state-of-the-art RTO solutions, adapted to the specific needs of each client to guarantee maximum performance and regulatory compliance.

A regenerative thermal purification equipment, also known as THERMOREACTOR, eliminates volatile organic compounds from gases through thermal oxidation and consequently also serves as odor treatment. This thermal oxidation is achieved by raising the temperature of the gases enough so that these organic compounds combine with oxygen to form CO2 and water.

Gas purification by regenerative thermal oxidation consists of subjecting them to a sufficiently high temperature for the time necessary to produce the oxidation of the pollutants. This type of thermal oxidation is characterized by including devices, called regenerators, which recover the heat from the purified gases. These regenerators are elements of ceramic material that accumulate the heat of the gases leaving the oxidation chamber.

Through a valve system, consecutive operating cycles are established through which the purified gases, which are at a high temperature (about 800 ºC), transfer their heat to the ceramic masses so that the contaminated gases, which enter the installation cold, take this heat from them in the next cycle.
